6 Days Trekking Marangu Route

Tour Overview

The Marangu Route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is one of the most popular paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. This route is favoured for its well-defined path and the availability of hut accommodations, making it a comfortable choice for many trekkers. Despite its reputation for being easier, it still presents a significant challenge and offers stunning scenery.

Key Highlights:

Hut Accommodations: Stay in huts instead of tents, providing more comfort and protection from the elements.

Summit Day: Reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, for a breathtaking sunrise.

Varied Ecosystems: Travel through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert zones.

Tour Itinerary

Leaving Moshi | Arusha, and start drive you through the Village of Marangu to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Upon arrival, we'll patiently await the issuance of our permits, observing the lively activity as numerous crews gear up for the upcoming journey. Delight in the picturesque rainforest landscapes and winding trails as your guide enlightens you about the indigenous flora, fauna, and wildlife. Given the muddy and slippery conditions at these lower elevations, we strongly advise using gaiters and trekking poles for added stability and safety.

Overnight: Mandara Hut

Meals: Lunch & Dinner included

Following a restful night's sleep and a satisfying breakfast, we depart from the rainforest and proceed along a rising trail, traversing heathlands in search of towering lobelias and groundsels. Ascending further, we reach open moorlands dominated by small shrubs. Midday, we pause for lunch, relishing the breathtaking vistas of Mawenzi. By late afternoon, we reach the Horombo Huts nestled beneath the awe-inspiring Kibo Summit viewpoint as temperatures gradually decline.

Overnight: Horombo Hut

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included

You have the option to extend your stay at Horombo, allowing for a full day and an additional night. During this time, you can choose to relax at the huts or embark on a leisurely walk to the Mawenzi base camp before returning to Horombo. This extra day is beneficial for acclimatization and enhances your familiarity with the mountain's weather and altitude. Following this break, you'll proceed to the Kibo Huts on your fourth day to commence your midnight ascent to the summit.

Overnight: Horombo Hut

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included

Following breakfast, we proceed further across the diminishing heathland, which gradually transforms into a moonscape as we approach the expansive saddle linking Mawenzi and Kibo. It is here, as we pause for lunch, and later traverse this unexpectedly vast saddle, that you can observe the ascent to Kibo summit, which awaits your commencement in mere hours.

Overnight: Kibo Hut

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included

Today you start at night from the Kibo Hut (4,700 m) and begin your climb to the Kilimanjaro Peak: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The climb will be moderate from a physical standpoint, but altitude poses a much more serious problem. Throughout the trek, each pair of climbers will be accompanied by their guide, who will monitor their endurance and mental determination. After your successful climb to Uhuru Peak, you can descend to the next glacier if you wish. You will then return to Kibo Camp and, after a two-hour break, continue your descent to Horombo Hut (3,720 m).

Note: Don't forget that 90% of all accidents happen during the descent, including all broken arms and legs. Please pay attention to your feet as there is a high risk of damaging your toenails.

Overnight: Horombo Hut

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included

In the morning, a hot breakfast awaits you. Following that, we'll journey to the exit of Kilimanjaro National Park, Marangu Gate. Once you've completed your descent, the entire group will assemble to extend their congratulations. You'll then have the chance to reflect on your journey in the guestbook. To conclude, commemorative certificates will be presented to you, then we transfer you back to the hotel.
